Something’s Amiss

20/10/2009

Do you ever get those feelings? As if you have forgotten something.

Or that sense of “Hmmmm”, niggling at the back of your mind.

Even a thought of, “Now what was it again?”

It’s no fun when that happens and the mystery is not solved.

Worse is when there is a deadline involved and you miss it. Grrrrr!

So now I have to ask myself, “WHAT was it that I have forgotten, and WHEN was it that I was supposed to have done something about it?”

Anyone out there like me at all?

Eat to Live or Live to Eat

17/10/2009

Eat

Eat

Eat.

Do we eat to live or do we live to eat?

When we are young with lots of energy, burning off the calories can be done by plenty of activities and sports. But as we grow older, that’s another story! If we would continue enjoying our food to the excess, we will pay for the consequences. As our stomach screams futilely at us to stop, as our mouth continues chewing, as our hands continue reaching out for the next spoonful, we know full well that something has to give! Repeated discomfort from indigestion and the feelings of bloated stomach finally convince us that something HAS to be done! Drastic measures are needed.

BUT before we get to talking surgery such as stomach stapling, let’s look at alternatives. Maybe we should look at the prevention side. You know, we should somehow suppress appetite and not attack the fridge so often or have snacks lying around. That might be better than retrospectively doing something about it. Then we would eat to live…. as it should be….

Keeping Healthy

16/10/2009

Many people are having their colon cleansed. They say it is an alternative medical therapy  intended to remove faecal waste and unidentified toxins from the colon and intestinal tract. Colon cleansing may take the form of colon hydrotherapy (also called colonics or colonic irrigation) or oral cleansing regimens.

Recently here, colon cleansing and detoxification has become popular practice. It’s seen a huge surge in media popularity (thanks to Oprah) and is recommended by natural health practitioners and a more health conscious America.

But does it truly work?

You have to make up your own mind. As always, when it comes to health products, it is your health and money. Be wise by reading more about it. Yes, to colon cleanse is the lastest to keeping healthy. If it works for you, please do let me know!

Learned a new word

15/10/2009

With my nursing and midwifery background, I don’t find long words and terminology (read medical jargon) intimidating. In fact, sometimes I find it challenging.

Take for example a new word I learned – mesothelioma I learned that this word means a malignant form of cancer that is often caused by exposure to asbestos. Malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a lining found covering most parts of the internal organs. Not nicel.

Most people who develop this have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre in other ways. It has also been suggested that washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos can put a person at risk.

I am glad that the risks of asbestos are beginning to be more readily available.

Which is good thing for someone who is working with this substance!

Against Crow’s Feet

13/10/2009

Crows feet!

That’s another word for a dreaded development, especially on the face after skiing!

Yes, folks, I mean wrinkles!

We all are on a losing battle because of the aging process that everyone of us face. It doesn’t happen only on our face but is also noticeable in our hands. My grandma once held my hands and studied them intently, only to declare that they were “working hands” because of the wrinkles on them. Not that having such hands was wrong. What’s wrong with hard work anyway, right? At least that’s what I told myself then – more than thirty years ago!

However for most of us, the most worrying place to have these unwanted crevices would be at the eyebrows. They definitely give the appearance of age. And I suspect that my trip next year into the cold air will not help either.

Hence I might just tell Hubby what’s one item on my Christmas list this year! Anti- wrinkle cream that works! Ha!

From Sun to Snow!

12/10/2009

Weeee! Skiing, here we come!

We have booked to go on a holiday next year! It is a holiday we have never done before. We have backpacked, we have camped, we have done the caravan bit. Yes, we have even done climbing mountains and staying overnight at islands. Why, we even got to see a turtle lay eggs in the middle of the night.

But this, this is a totally new experience! We are going for the snow and the thrill of skiing in Seoul Korea. It will be a escapade treat from hot tropical Malaysia, especially for our teenage daughter who has never seen snow before. Now for us oldies, hopefully we will not break any bones!

If we come out of this unscathed, who knows, Hubby says we might even venture further, to the US of A! Apparently the Vail Colorado of North America is another must-do!

I know, I know, we are mad to do this at our age! But hey, if not now, then when?!

Big Boyz Toys

11/10/2009

They called it the Big Boyz Toys event. Ferrari02Held at the largest mall in Borneo, it showcased the kind of toys that only the “big boys” could afford to have. The kind of big boys with big bank accounts!

FerrariHere’s Hubby and Arrow #3 posing with a Ferrari. I mean honestly, talk about toys for men! Not that we could afford any of this of course. Why, just maintaining such a “toy” and getting  replacement  Ferrari parts would break our banks!

Still, it was fun to be that close to them!

Getting Desperate

11/10/2009

OK, things are getting desperate here on the home gastronomy front!

This is what we had for dinner last week.

No, correction. This is what I had for dinner last week.

Upperstar01In case you can’t make out the dripping fat, it’s from a roast lamb…. and chips… drowned in mint sauce…. laced with coleslaw.

My salivary glands are working overtime now even as I post this.

I had been hankering for a roast lamb for weeks. Each weekend when Hubby and I go for dinner together without the children, I think about this dish. Finally got to eat it.

And then started to think about my weight.

And then felt convicted to think further, but this time about weight loss supplements Ha! WHY do I torture myself so?

I guess I love my food too much!

Start Tomorrow…..

10/10/2009

Dieting always starts tomorrow. We simply love our food too much. The more we eat, the more un-slim we become. Most of us are slim-challenged. So much food so little time to enjoy them. So much side growth so little time to work it off.

Worse when you are faced with such goodies below…. which is what greeted us for lunch the other day.

ElFresco01Chocolate-dripping fruit, avacado-based crab delight, strawberry-topped cheese and tiramisu bites, and apple foundant….

Groannn

Made me think about reaching for some diet pills!

After A Meal Like This

09/10/2009

This is what I had recently.

Fukkien

Confession – I had it more than once recently! In fact, my taste buds seem to be on a quest – to find the best in town!

You see, the other night, Hubby and I went to a place which, in our memory, used to serve this mouth-watering, fat-establishing, cholesterol-encouraging dish. The main ingredient that makes it super duper nice is…. the fried fat pieces. It has to have them, and in sufficient amounts to make the sauce gooey and tasty.

But when we went to this place which used to rank as number one, we were sadly disappointed. Perhaps some health-conscious customers had put a stop to it.

So we went on a quest.

And now we are in a predicament. We have probably wrecked the good that we had been doing to our bodies! We probably ought to do something about it, such as ingesting a fat burner instead!
