The Car

12/01/2010

We did it.

We bought a second hand car.

And this is it.

Arrow #1 is being based in West Malaysia for his future studies. Since we might go over fairly often and when we do, we dont have a vehicle to use, Hubby thought he would scout to see if there was any good deal available.

Amazingly, his sensing spot on as usual, he got a good deal. Single owner, low mileage and good condition.

Then we scouted for not only the cheapest car insurance but also the best coverage and value for money. Subsequently I drove more than 800km in two days in it!

More tales of the car another time then.

BackUp Gift

11/01/2010

I received a post Christmas pre birthday gift the other day.

A portable hard disk! I was doubly thrilled because not only had I previously eyed this particular one, but not expecting to purchase it since I already had an older version, but also because it was actually one I had pass to my friends for THEIR purchase!

This is me being snapped as I opened the packaging. Gosh, my toothy grin shows!

I have had my fair share of losing data, the most recent being the most costly in that some of the data is irreplacable. The ideal would be to be able to go and do online backup regularly and easily – imagine, limitless and easy. But this is not always the case where I live. So this is the next best alternative. And now to be more disciplined!

Claims and Bills

10/01/2010

One of the things I dislike doing every month.

One of the essential things I have to do every month.

One of the things I tend to procrastinate doing every month.

One of the things I wish I could pass on to others to do every month.

Ha! I suppose I shouldnt complain. It is, after all, not just for me, but for my Hubby.

So, after this post, I shall begin! Hope to finish by lunch time!

HA!

Lost Count

07/01/2010

Counting my blessings

And lost count.

Starting again…. Now I think I will group some items together.

1. A wonderful Hubby who cares for me and loves me unconditionally

2. Wonderful children and foster children who love God and are learning to make right choices

3. Great parents – thanks Dad and Mom!

4. Comfortable home – Bethany is a responsibility, but also a joy

5. Good health – mental, physical, spiritual, emotional

6. Purpose in life – satisfaction!

7. Identity – something I nearly lost for a time

8. Local church – thank you, especially the Leaders

9. Ministry opportunities galore – learning priorities time!

10. Lots of greetings especially for this day – sms, Facebook, emails… some even on the day before! Some from overseas too…

11. Able to use gifts and encouraged to do so – What more can I ask!

12. Knowing I am where I ought to be for now ministry-wise

13. Flowers at the start of today

14. Received gifts of perfume, handbag, purse, shoes, clothes, jewellery, even angpow, some even before the end of 2009!

15. I have more… but I think this will do for now… the day isnt over yet!

Thank You Lord for making me, ME!

To Soften….

Ipoh. That’s where we visited and had that lotus seed fun in my earlier post. It’s a city of picturesque limestone hills, exquisite marble, super fat beansprouts and super soft rice sticks (hor furn). Honestly, the beansprouts are FAT and the hor fun is super slippery nice. Apparently all this is possible because of the water. The hard water caused by calcium of the limestone, to be precise. Nice. No wonder Ipoh is famous for her food!

But hard water is not a friend of all. It messes up the laundry and washing because you need twice the amount of detergent. Hair cakes up after shampooing for the same reason. Water pipes and taps clog up faster. Hence when we went to Ipoh, the homes we visited had water softeners.

I suppose you can’t have it good all the way! I’ll settle for the softeners and yummy food anytime!

Fun with the Lotus

04/01/2010

On my recent trip home, we discovered a childhood game and tidbit. The lotus root.

First row from left to right – the root as it is sold, head on and side profile, and how I snap off the stem.

Second row shows how fibres of the stem cling. The children can have fun with this. So light that it can float in the air, the fibres can also hold the stem and let it dangle and dangle and dangle.

Third row shows the seeds. There are many little ones and the knack is to get the yonug ones. They are sweeter and juicier.

The bottom row shows what each seed looks like on the inside. Pop it into your mouth and voila! A nice snack indeed!

It was fun sharing some of my childhood with the younger ones.
