Skin Care

17/03/2010

I just have to post again today!

My friends came over and we did what we never thought we would do! I mean, it’s the sort of things you read about; not actually do it!

But we did!

We actually went through our holiday photos with them!

That’s so corny, right? Well, the nice thing was that we really enjoyed ourselves doing so. Otherwise we wouldn’t have inflicted the photos on our friends.

But what I am really posting about is something I had been meaning to since even before we came back from Korea!

Meet our tour guide.

Through her, we found out what we were already observing – the Koreans are very meticulous about their looks. They have a saying that there is no ugly people, only lazy people. This means that lazy people will not spend time to make themselves look good.

Hence our Korean tourist guide will spend an hour making up. Everyday she has the same meticulous face. Her secret? Apart from the time spent, she uses the best face cream made in Korea! At least, that’s what she tells us!

By the way, she says she’s not as young as she looks. Guess how old she is….

Impending Danger

17/03/2010

Honestly, with all the chocolates I have been having of late, it is a wonder that I have not been inflicted with acne or pimples.

Apart from the egg-shaped ones I posted about a few days ago, there were these ones. Yummy brownies.

Then there were these other ones. Yummy black chocolates.

At this rate, I just know I will erupt. My face I mean. It’s amazing that I have been acnefree all this while.

Perhaps it is because I enjoy my nice soothing cold water drinks too aka Adam’s Ale, or Sky Juice! Whatever it is, I mustn’t overdo, I know. Otherwise…..

Afterwards

16/03/2010

My second offspring has completed his first year! On a scholarship, I am glad to say that he has done reasonably well. Our thought turn towards the next few years. What next, we wonder.

As career paths are getting more competitive, more people are opting to get a degree or two to enhance their chance of advancing in their chosen field. Armed with a degree, coupled together with experience, you will stand out. Furthermore, with unemployment on a record high and with no sign of improving soon, those with a degree stand a better chance of being employed compared with those without a degree. Indeed, for those already in employment, a degree may give them a better chance of not being laid off.

Most times, getting a degree can be costly – fees are not cheap. What’s more, leaving a job to further your study is not an option many can afford to take. You lose job security on top having to pay for the cost of furthering your studies. It’s almost like double jeopardy!

That is why so many are looking at getting an online degree. There are plenty to choose from such as Western Governors University which gives a wide range of choices and seem ideal to provide online programs designed for busy adults. A nationally and regionally accredited institution, there are a great variety of bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Information Technology, Teacher Licensure, Business and Health Professional. An online IT degree is equally recognised.

Hence Hubby and I think that this is the direction for our son to go after he has finished his basic qualifications!

Chok-a-blok on Chocolate

15/03/2010

It would seem that the word has gone out.

Although not entirely accurate.

But, yes, it would seem so.

Because I keep getting them.

Lots of them.

This box is the latest offering.

BUT I am being good right now. I cant indulge in this just yet because I need to let the coughing clear up. Otherwise the milk will aggravate things.

Presently taking lots of hot water, sometimes lemon juice (PURE!) and sucking lozenges. I need the rest too I guess.

Self control needed here. So this is one incentive. All eighteen of them!

Gosh, I will have other health problems instead at this rate – being overweight!

Paying the Price

14/03/2010

OK, so I have been stuffing myself. So much for self control! It’s been a non-stop stream of chocolates appearing. Friends, acquaintances, why, even the lady at the local coffee shop have been giving us chocolates for gifts! I lie not!

Presently there are four types of chocolates in the fridge. Mint choc biscuits, black chocolate, chocolate wafers, and chocolates with macadamia nuts. O wait. I forgot the three little packets of vanilla chocolate biscuits.

Those are in the fridge.

Then there are those outside – two types of chocolates from Korea. Another that is fudge-like.

At this rate, I will definitely will have to sign up for some sort of weight loss program. All my previous hard work is going to be undone – no one else in the house likes milk chocolates!

Consequences

13/03/2010

All this eating late at night is taking its toll.

I find it hard to get to sleep. The consequences of getting old and being less able to digest food!

The latest saga of eating late started a week ago and has continued non-stop. Suppers galore, and snacks after meals havent helped.

Last night was the final straw. After dinner out with friends, we adjourned to our place for chit chat. And snacks. And hot drinks. And more snacks.

Needless to say, I found it hard to get to sleep after. I sat up for an extra hour!

At this rate I will have to seriously consider help such as sleep pills in future, which I am loathe to do. Something has to give…..

Slinky

12/03/2010

Have you ever played with Slinky? That coiled up contraption that can “climb downstairs”?

If you ever have, then you would know that sometimes when little hands get onto Slinky, there can be quite a devastating effect on Slinky. It could never ever be the same again….

Which was ALMOST what happened the other day!

Poor, poor Slinky. I thought it was a goner.

Then this kind uncle took pity.

And decided that the challenge was too good to pass by.

So he sought to sort out Slinky (wow almost a tongue-twister there)

It made a nice colourful photo opportunity too (Hee Hee)

After about ten minutes, to my delight, I could see some semblance of order.

Then another five minutes later, voila!

Isn’t this uncle clever?

It just goes to show that with a little bit of patience and perseverance, concentration and determination, you can do something complicating like untangling a very jumbled up Slinky!

And no, he is not my real uncle. It’s just the way younger children address older folk here – out of respect.

So Slinky lives to see another day…. And perhaps make another post!

For the Occasion

10/03/2010

Arrow Number 2 is due home soon. While he is back, I have decided that he needs to do what Arrow Number 1 did – get a jacket.

Or, better still, get a tux.

Just the word – tuxedos. It rolls off the tongue so nicely, conjuring up the suave, sharp look a man must have for a black tie occasion, or a formal dinner function or a wedding reception. To me, it is never out of date, always in fashion and a safe bet. When you need something to blend in with the uppity crowd, tuxedos is the way to go.

You can have one tailor made or you can rent it. Rental gives you choices of different cuts for different occasion. But it will never feel as comfortable as to have one fitted. Your money, your choice.

So when Arrow Number 2 gets back, I plan to take him shopping. He won’t enjoy it of course, being the typical, going-to-leave-the-teenage-years chap that he is. But Momma will have her way…..!

The CC

08/03/2010

CC.

That stands for credit card.

Also known as plastic money.

One of the most convenient financial instruments invented for our modern living.

It removes the need to carry too much cash. Cash is risky as it can be lost or stolen. Why, purchasing big items through credit is so much safer than taking large wads of cash along. More so if you are traveling out of the country.

Furthermore some credit cards give you insurance on items purchased or air tickets for travel.

Indeed, credit card processing is ever so easy and convenient. SO convenient that if not careful, one could overdo it. Just a stroke of the pen.

Which is why we do what we do – try to pay up every month in full. Interest free installments included. Otherwise, I shudder to think of the perils thereafter!

Job Search

05/03/2010

After visiting Korea and seeing the homes there, it makes me wonder about owning a home in another place. After all, it is everyone’s dream to live in a house they own, a place to call home. Indeed, every year millions of young people embark on their journey into the job market after high schools, colleges or universities. Millions get married and millions more are born. There is ever increase in demand for new homes, no matter what the economic climate is.

Not everyone has an opportunity like me to build a house from scratch. Purchase is an option we all start with, after renting. Is there a good time to buy a house? Some would say it’s a buyer’s market. Others would use the phrase it’s a seller’s market. Which is why a job in real estate is always a good choice.

Thinking further, starting with a Real Estate job search could be a good way to launch into the this field. Perhaps this is something I should ask my foster son to consider…..
