Did I ever mention that I own a sewing machine? Well I do.

Did I ever post about knowing how to sew a little? Straight line stuff. Hate the zips and buttons bits.

Did I upload any photo of this new toy I have? Hubby bought me a new sewing machine. See?

Nice eh? This is me sewing up some velcro straps for this stringy curtain to be hung at the door leading into Arrow #3′s room! “Naise” as some of the youth would say!

A Workout

I have a deadline to meet. I need to get some weight off! This week so far, I have only been able to get to do a workout twice. The other evenings have seen me working well past exercise time. I end up going home so late that the very thought of doing anything physical just makes me want to go curl up in bed!

And yet, I really need to lose weight.

Arrow Number 3 suggests that I can make it more fun – she’s challenging me to some games. Indoor games, and not the boring board game ones! No, she is offering her new gadget! She was given a wii as an early birthday present.

Hmmm that might just do the trick….!

Pingu. That’s penguin in the national language here.And our third Arrow is soooo into penguins that she would searchall over for anything related to penguins – from soft toys to tee shirts. In fact, over Christmas, she received a number of penguin items. See that one on the left? It goes into her collection of funny tee shirts because it makes her almost look like a penguin! Whenever she puts it on, inevitably she draws comments. Or rather, the tee shirt does!

Challenges

It’s hard. We know of more than one friend facing challenges right now. Why this sudden surge? We don’t know. All we know is that it’s becoming more common. The same problem – addiction. Addiction to the internet, to gambling, to drugs and to alcohol. For one, a place that could help might be the san diego drug alcohol rehab treatment center. The other, we think her parents will need to do further research first. Hopefully it will not be too long before she too gets help.

Good-looking Arrows. That’s what Hubby and I have. When they were younger, the opposite sex would come a-knocking. Hubby and I would have to teach them. Looks aren’t everything. Also, our policy is to encourage them to save themselves for the best one.

Of course, there would always be the pessimists who would say, “What if you get left behind?” Hubby would chortle and say we’d match make then!

Actually’ one of Hubby’s former colleagues found love on the internet and is now happily married with a young daughter. Another friend’s daughter is engaged to be married. Sites such as free dating online at Zyngle.com might also come in useful, though approached with caution and eyes opened. And yes, love CAN happen….

Experiences

Hubby and I just finished having a chat on Skype with our eldest who is now in England. It’s quite fun for him right now – for the first time in his life is experiencing snow! He and his friends have built a snowman taller than they. This was something neither Hubby nor I have had the chance to do. It hardly snowed where we were.

We wonder what other experiences he will have in his time there. Will he jump into a pile of fallen leaves in autumn just as I did in Hyde Park? Will he get to play conkers? Will he discover the joy of riding horses? Hmmm riding horses will be unlike playing in snow and fallen leaves. You’d need more preparation and equipment. Such as learning about the english horse tack and how to use it. I can imagine him getting a sore bottom!

Amazingly Lasting

This morning I went visiting a friend’s place. When I got there, this sight greeted me at their doorstep.

Isn’t it absolutely beautiful? Looking so very brilliant and fresh.

I am told that they need special treatment just before Christmas to get the red effect. Primed to attract attention, priced according to size, many a home has hosted such a plant. Once bought, it’s up to the new owners to tend them, and try to make them last. This one has lasted well…. I must find their secret.

Today saw the start of a conference here. It’s about leadership and succession.

As the speaker went on, I was reminded of my (much) younger days. Accomplishments which brought in numerous trophies and certificates. Some of which were hard-fought for. Others were almost run-of-the-mill things. Yet each has a history. And though I don’t look at them anymore, I can still recall the days when I would step up to the starting block, adrenalin pumping.

I believe being so involved in a sport gave me the edge and drive I have today.

And succession? That would be my youngest sister who set out to, and succeeded, in breaking all the records I set!

A Gift

It is customary during the Chinese New Year that the married folk give gifts to the unmarried. Called the ang-pow, or red packet, it is the norm which all children look forward to. In some cultures, parents will still give to their married offspring. Mostly however, over time, it is the grown up children would give to their parents.

This year, after thirty years of marriage, surprise surprise. A stranger decided to give me an ang-pow! Was I wearing my poorest, oldest looking top? Who knows? It’s not much, and quite fun!

Being More Ready

February is upon us! Where did January go!

The church that I attend has an anniversary celebration in the middle of the year. That’s not too far away now! For us, this event in some way even surpasses Christmas and Easter in celebrations and preparations because it is a day of giving. This year, however, instead of the usual gifts we which give away, I am wondering about anniversary gift baskets. I will need to convince the people in charge!
