Amazingly Lasting

03/02/2012

This morning I went visiting a friend’s place. When I got there, this sight greeted me at their doorstep.

Isn’t it absolutely beautiful? Looking so very brilliant and fresh.

I am told that they need special treatment just before Christmas to get the red effect. Primed to attract attention, priced according to size, many a home has hosted such a plant. Once bought, it’s up to the new owners to tend them, and try to make them last. This one has lasted well…. I must find their secret.

More Thought About Gifts

23/12/2011

What with gifts for the nephews sorted out, what about littl’ sis and sis-in-law….? I need something pretty but portable because I have weight allowance limits. We’re traveling budget air to get there. And because it’s a kind of family get-together on Boxing Day so I cant possibly go empty handed….

Hmmm how about some beadaholique gemstone beads? That might be quite novel and easy to take. They would certainly look pretty on my relatives. Possible, possible.

Media-Musical Event

22/12/2011

What is a media-musical event, you might ask. Well, it’s a combination of a media and a musical presentation. A clever mixture to tell a story. In this case, a story about a Prodigal Father.

Prodigal. Extravagant. Wasteful.

In some ways it can be rather negative. But in the case of the Father, his only extravagance is his love being poured out.

Oh, and it got featured in the local papers.

Arrow #3 was one of the dancers.

Yours truly ended up being roped in to do the announcements Haha

Mad Rush to Year End

21/12/2011

It’s a busy, busy time. What with the musical going on and Christmas Day. Gasp. Need to do some gift shopping and don’t know what to do and where to go with the limited time that I have.

I did think about getting what I hear is the best yo yo at yoyoplay for my nephews whom we will see after Christmas. I can see them wow-ing their parents whilst competing with one another to do special displays. Will I have enough time….?!

Getting the RIght Gift

13/12/2011

Sometimes it is hard to get the right Christmas gift. Hubby always thinks that giving gift voucher is so much better to avoid giving the wrong kind of gifts that is not wanted nor appreciated. For example, for those who love gaming gamestop coupons would be just the answer. Every kind of latest games is available at that site. For someone who loves clothes, getting some vouchers from a similar departmental store would be ideal.

For me however, I like the idea of picking something out which would put a big smile on the recipient when they open it. So perhaps we will see a mixture this year….!

The Chef

10/12/2011

Christmas is fast approaching. I see lots of lovely turkeys, lambs and cakes for orders. Just the thing for a non-cook like myself! The prices of these Christmas Dinner Classics are super high… I wonder…. Our foster son DG is learning to become a chef and will soon graduate to face the real world. I wonder if he will take a look at the Short Order Cook Jobs site as well. They have many on offer. I must take note and suggest he has a look there. Who knows, he might end up going other places, and rake in lots of money!

The Tree

15/11/2011

The tree in the hotel lobby is up. This tree must be about 30 feet high. (Don’t ask me in metres because I am old school!)

But the lights are not on. This picture was taken last year.

I am told that the tree lights will only come on in early December. That gives me time to get my office decorations up too, to coincide with the hotel’s decorations!

It’s Almost that Time of Year

13/11/2011

I love putting my tree up. I love decorating my place.

It’s something I have triedto do for my children ever since the first Arrow was born. It’s part of making memories for them. It’s part of making them feel it’s a special time of year. It’s part of reminding them that we are a family who celebrate Jesus.

I have five boxes of decorations but have only used one so far. Four more to go.

Perhaps today?

For Them

21/10/2011

As I was saying in my earlier post, it is sooooo difficult to buy gifts for men! After stewing over the grandparents’ gifts and feeling a measure of success, I suddenly realise I am far from done. There are so many males in my family!

Men don’t appreciate fluffy toys and pretty things. They like the “big boys toys” stuff. Those who are rich have already got what they want. If you get them anything they would probably already own something similar that is branded and cost a whole lot more than your gift!  Such then is the dilemma for the giver is great to say the least. But then of course I am not talking about the men in my family Ahem! For a start, we are hardly in the “rich” category!

But it still doesn’t solve my problem!

Someone has suggested that Mens Gift Basket Ideas may be the place for unique gifts that might just be appreciated. Nothing to lose and a lot of happy males in the house to gain….!

Ideas for Gifts

20/10/2011

With Christmas fast coming up, one of the hardest gifts I have to work on are the grandparent gifts. It’s easier to get gifts for females too. Well, at least I think so! But to get gifts for men? Apart from the usual ghastly socks or tie selection, or dreary book or cumbersome-and-never-used DIY equipment, there is very little that comes to mind.

That is until now. I am amazed how easy shopping on line has made my life!

Now, what did I say was Hubby’s gift…..?
