Help Wanted Help Offered

25/10/2010

I hadn’t realised how much red tape was involved!

My girlfriend who lives in the States told me about the runaround she had just to get some Social Security benefits. What added to the complication was that she was after disability insurance for her daughter who has been diagnosed as having Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

I am glad to say that there was help available to plough through the form filling and bureaucracy bashing for just a small fee. Needless to say that she did just that and is now a lot more assured.

Amazingly I found out that you can contact some of these companies here in my town too! That’s important to note as I wouldn’t know when I might need such help….

Beyond Me

17/10/2010

Yesterday Hubby came home all excited!

I could see it on his face!

I could pick it out from his step!

Even his entire back was not stooped from weariness of work.

SOMETHING had caught his attention and stimulated his mind!

And that something was……

A Forex trading software which was introduced to him by a friend!

Say what?!

Yes, my dear accountancy-trained-but-no-longer-practising  Hubby gets interested in this sort of things – sometimes! Of late, he has been looking into ways to make more money and retire (I wish!) So this would appear to be an answer to prayer!

I didn’t stay up to see him get his eureka after he figured out how it works because all this sort of figures and numbers is beyond me. But I DO hope it WILL work and we can both retire and travel round the world together!

Earning Extra

16/09/2010

My friend L is ecstatic! She’s just been able to get herself a brand new camera from her earnings. Please don’t ask me what the make or specifications of the camera are because I am not into this sort of thing and didn’t bother to ask!

What I DID ask was how she did it. L doesn’t go out to work and has young children to care for. Her husband, whilst earning a decent wage, doesn’t have spare cash to get “extras” that cost so much. So obviously I wanted to know how she managed to beg, steal, borrow the Vitamin M (did you know there was a Vitamin M? M stands for money!)

It turns out that she has become an affiliate to some sort of online networking where she promotes products and gets paid for it. Not bad, considering she has now earned enough for what we would describe as a “changgih” camera. (There doesn’t seem to be an equivalent word in English!)

Now, if I had the time, I might just follow suit…. Anyone else interested?

Near Miss

01/06/2010

So it’s the long holiday weekend and it’s coming to an end.

But it’s also the weekend where many accidents occur!

This is one of four I have seen in the in the last two weeks! One was a fatality involving two cars and a motorbike. This one didn’t seem to involve anyone else. Even if you yourself drive safely, there is no guarantee that someone else will too. Some of them have obviously been drinking during this festive season!

Seeing this reminded me that I yet to sort out the insurance for someone I know. I will need to get some life insurance quotes tomorrow. Better put a reminder on my phone….now!

Phew!

Did you know we bought our son who is in university a second hand car?

We tested it and have even driven it over more than a thousand kilometres within a week after we bought it. It proved to be reliable.

However we as parents will always be concern of breakdown when we are not around. Sure enough it happened. Not that he told us about it of course – he posted in on Facebook instead!

We are glad that there are services such as www.goodsamesp.com. Such services give us parents an easier night’s sleep!

The CC

08/03/2010

CC.

That stands for credit card.

Also known as plastic money.

One of the most convenient financial instruments invented for our modern living.

It removes the need to carry too much cash. Cash is risky as it can be lost or stolen. Why, purchasing big items through credit is so much safer than taking large wads of cash along. More so if you are traveling out of the country.

Furthermore some credit cards give you insurance on items purchased or air tickets for travel.

Indeed, credit card processing is ever so easy and convenient. SO convenient that if not careful, one could overdo it. Just a stroke of the pen.

Which is why we do what we do – try to pay up every month in full. Interest free installments included. Otherwise, I shudder to think of the perils thereafter!

Musing

27/01/2010

That near miss yesterday got me thinking.

How certain can you be as to the length of your life?

I mean, a sole bread earner has to wonder because of his responsibility for his or her family. If life is cut short for them, how would the family that is left behind going to carry on living?

I suppose one obvious way is for the bread winner to buy some life insurance. Then, if he or she dies at a ripe old age, it is well and good. But should life be cut short, the compensation from the insurance is a godsend, taking the edge out of bereavement and easing a little the strain on the family left behind.

Sobering thoughts.

Claims and Bills

10/01/2010

One of the things I dislike doing every month.

One of the essential things I have to do every month.

One of the things I tend to procrastinate doing every month.

One of the things I wish I could pass on to others to do every month.

Ha! I suppose I shouldnt complain. It is, after all, not just for me, but for my Hubby.

So, after this post, I shall begin! Hope to finish by lunch time!

HA!

Wish List

03/12/2009

Buy! Buy! Buy! Tis the season not only to get ready to be merry but also to spend spend spend. The malls are shouting out for us to buy. Advertising are clamoring for our attention to buy. Because this is the time of the year to buy for Christmas and the New Year!

Do you have a wish list? Whether you do or dont, how would you know what the best deal is?

Short of diligently studying every single advertisement and price tag on display, we will never know.

This is where I think going online where they all the legwork and homework is done for you will get you the Best Buy, hassle-free and in the shortest time. More and more people are turning to online shopping.

And so will I!

Precious Metal

01/11/2009

This morning the preacher cracked a joke which involved doors – first the normal big door, which led to a silver door. Then the silver door opened to a gold door. That gold door opened to a platinum door…. well, you get the idea.

Warren Buffett, the second richest man in the world today, has this to say about gold, gold coins or gold bullion: “It gets dug out of the ground in Africa or someplace. Then we melt it down, dig another hole, bury it again and pay people to stand around guarding it”

Jokes and clever remarks aside, gold has become the safe haven for investors lately due to the global financial crisis caused by bankers speculating on sub prime investments. When the US currency loses its appeal due to the heavy debts of the USA, gold is where investors are going for. Yes, it seems that the world is reverting back to gold standard.

And why not? After all, gold does not lose its value due to limited supply and constant demand by people. It can be fashioned into jewelery. Gold coins are also collectors items.

Now, with Christmas less than two months away, how can I make sure my Hubby reads this post “accidentally”?
