Gastronomy 101

18/12/2011

Hubby took me out one evening. Quite an nice restaurant too. The place was known for fine dining. This was one of the dishes.

I felt somewhat out of place initially. We don’t often frequent such places. Since this was complimentary, we took up the offer. Nice appearance? Tasted good too. And the rest of the meal too.

The Chef

10/12/2011

Christmas is fast approaching. I see lots of lovely turkeys, lambs and cakes for orders. Just the thing for a non-cook like myself! The prices of these Christmas Dinner Classics are super high… I wonder…. Our foster son DG is learning to become a chef and will soon graduate to face the real world. I wonder if he will take a look at the Short Order Cook Jobs site as well. They have many on offer. I must take note and suggest he has a look there. Who knows, he might end up going other places, and rake in lots of money!

Starting Them Young

23/11/2011

The young man likes to cook. He cooks well.

He is a bit of an entrepreneur too. So he invites us round for dinner and charges us to taste his food!

Not bad eh?

He enlists people to help. They have to pay for their food too.

How does he do that?!

Anyway, the evening is a resounding success and he has new clients now. They order food and go by to pick the dishes up. He still can’t drive.

Like I said, he is a young man!

Snacks During Trip

10/10/2011

Back to my trip!

While we were away, we had lots to eat. The local people enjoyed feeding us! Somehow they would know when mealtimes are and people would come and bring extra food. Like this.

This was our first day lunch. There was special ginger, bamboo shoots, freshly caught and cooked deer, river fresh fish, and other such local delicacies. Not forgetting the special leave wrapped rice.

Then this was tea time…. Someone brought this along.

There were these extras which were brought in to supplement the feast already available. And this huge spread was just for another “tea time”!

It is a wonder that I didn’t gain any weight from this trip!

Oh So Sweet!

17/09/2011

“Oh so sweet!” Those were my first thoughts upon sighting this colourful array of local cakes. I bought a selection for my office staff despite my not eating any.

“Oh so sweet!” went one of my office staff upon seeing them.

“OH SO SWEET!” exclaimed another staff upon tasting them!

Fast

31/08/2011

Do I refer to speed?

Do I refer to clasps?

Neither!

I refer to the abstinence of something, and in this case, food!

“What would we do without food?” I hear you exclaim.

Why, if it’s a prolonged fast, you’d start looking thin. Perhaps even svelte!

Having said that, I am told that this is not the best way to lose weight. One would regain weight loss and more apparently, and then one would need to reach out for the diet pills on the shelf!

So why fast?

It brings one closer to God. Enables one to be more conscious of the Almighty.

So I am told by those who do fast, and do so regularly.

So yeah, fast time cometh….

Barbequed Rice….!

26/08/2011

This is the local barbeque….

And this is how it is prepared.

There’s Something….

24/08/2011

There’s something about meeting up with friends.

There’s something about meeting up with friends over a nice meal.

A meeting of kindred hearts, minds and interests.

Over yummy food. Haha! That’s an important factor.

And of course, the ambiance. Thankful for the time together though short.

Concoction

19/08/2011

There is something about ice cream.

Especially ice cream on a hot day.

What’s more, ice cream on a hot day with chocolate syrup.

And yes, nothing beats vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup.

The ultimate? Vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup AND chocolate rice!

Hee Hee! Concocted by Arrow Number 3….!

BARRRRBIEEE!

17/08/2011

As I neared home today, I could see the cars. So many of them. They were parked a few hundred metres from our house but I knew that they were not visiting our place. I got into our driveway and realised that the gathering was at our neighbours. Seemed to be fairly happy crowd.

I opened the door to get out of the car and that’s when it hit me -  the smells! The delightful smells of grilled meats! The neighbours were having a barbeque. It made my salivary glands work super overtime!

And it made me want to get our own electric grill. Where’s Hubby’s bank book….
