Year of the Dragon

06/05/2012

The lunar calendar says this is the year of the dragon. Suddenly there is a surge of pregnancies. To the Chinese, this is a very auspicious time to give birth – it’s great to have a dragon baby. Especially if it is a boy.

The not-so-good-side is that the already over-crowded hospitals will be stretched to bursting point. I dread to imagine how many will get the care they need…. or not get the care they need.

Meanwhile, I think I will need to stock up on gifts. Someone suggested that baby boy crib bedding sets would be a good gift. Excellent. But I think the better thing would be to combine together with some friends to get them! I can also foresee our purses and wallets being lightened by a great deal by year end!

On the Theme of Thanksgiving

12/04/2012

In the spirit of thanksgiving, I love it when I am asked to do things like this:-

It’s goooood to say thanks. It’s even nicer if you are involved with a more elaborate way of saying thanks than just saying them. (Am I making sense?) I had fun. Fun (and some stress) in gathering these things together. Fun in being able to do the delivery too.

Needless to say, the recipient was super happy.

It’s nice to thank people. It’s good to spread some cheer and affirmation. Pass it on….

More to Thank

10/04/2012

Continuing the tone of thankfulness, there are many things to be thankful for. In particular, one should always be thankful of who people are and what they do.

Which is why I am glad that I am occasionally asked to do this sort of thing.

I am not the best hamper-packer. But I do enjoy doing them. It gives me an outlet for my creativity AND I don’t have to spend my own money! That’s a double bonus for thanksgiving! Haha!

For What It’s Worth

31/03/2012

All this fantasizing about what to do with the garden…. I would need tons of money to employ a team of people to transform the wreckage of a garden we have. I would have to probably pay them in precious metal; you know, like gold or silver bars. Perhaps even like the special golden eagle silver bullion bars. As if I had a supply of those!

Well, frankly, if I had that kind of money, that amount of commodity, I wouldn’t spend it on my garden.

Hubby, if you are reading this, for what it’s worth, I would spend the money on you and the family rather than the house!

Money Matters

07/03/2012

All this talk about getting things for the children and even for myself, my Hubby need deeper pockets! Haha!

Well, on a more realistic and current note, Hubby does need a new leather wallet. No ifs and buts about it – his present one is so worn out that his credit cards and notes are falling out every time he takes his wallet out! It’s almost embarrassing – as if he is flaunting his cards! Getting a new one is not easy – he has specific taste. He likes one that is slim, without zips and buckles. In fact, he just wants a plain simple one with enough pockets for all his cards and you know, stuff.

A Gift

01/02/2012

It is customary during the Chinese New Year that the married folk give gifts to the unmarried. Called the ang-pow, or red packet, it is the norm which all children look forward to. In some cultures, parents will still give to their married offspring. Mostly however, over time, it is the grown up children would give to their parents.

This year, after thirty years of marriage, surprise surprise. A stranger decided to give me an ang-pow! Was I wearing my poorest, oldest looking top? Who knows? It’s not much, and quite fun!

Being More Ready

01/02/2012

February is upon us! Where did January go!

The church that I attend has an anniversary celebration in the middle of the year. That’s not too far away now! For us, this event in some way even surpasses Christmas and Easter in celebrations and preparations because it is a day of giving. This year, however, instead of the usual gifts we which give away, I am wondering about anniversary gift baskets. I will need to convince the people in charge!

Creativity Creates Calm

23/01/2012

When I am undergoing stressful times, one way I soothe and find peace is to do something totally unrelated to work, with a pleasing final result. It used to be making cards. Then I sometimes get asked to do hampers. Now, however, I have been introduced to the craft of doing custom floral arrangements. Now, before you ask me to show you some photos, let me first stick in my disclaimer – plants often die on me. I am not sure how far this hobby cum de-stressing activity will hurt the flowers more than help me!  One day soon, I hope to have displays that I would dare to give away…!

More Thought About Gifts

23/12/2011

What with gifts for the nephews sorted out, what about littl’ sis and sis-in-law….? I need something pretty but portable because I have weight allowance limits. We’re traveling budget air to get there. And because it’s a kind of family get-together on Boxing Day so I cant possibly go empty handed….

Hmmm how about some beadaholique gemstone beads? That might be quite novel and easy to take. They would certainly look pretty on my relatives. Possible, possible.

Mad Rush to Year End

21/12/2011

It’s a busy, busy time. What with the musical going on and Christmas Day. Gasp. Need to do some gift shopping and don’t know what to do and where to go with the limited time that I have.

I did think about getting what I hear is the best yo yo at yoyoplay for my nephews whom we will see after Christmas. I can see them wow-ing their parents whilst competing with one another to do special displays. Will I have enough time….?!
