Getting the RIght Gift

13/12/2011

Sometimes it is hard to get the right Christmas gift. Hubby always thinks that giving gift voucher is so much better to avoid giving the wrong kind of gifts that is not wanted nor appreciated. For example, for those who love gaming gamestop coupons would be just the answer. Every kind of latest games is available at that site. For someone who loves clothes, getting some vouchers from a similar departmental store would be ideal.

For me however, I like the idea of picking something out which would put a big smile on the recipient when they open it. So perhaps we will see a mixture this year….!

Hitching Season

01/12/2011

Just had news that our friends’ son is getting married. Another’s daughter is getting hitched too. Yet another’s daughter is tying the know. All within the space of months, but all to different people, on different continents. I suppose we are of THAT age…..

These news made me all sentimental and I dug out our own engagement and wedding rings. We can’t wear them right now – we have both “prospered” too much! Chubby fingers don’t go hand in hand with lovely rings.

I wonder where the couples obtained their wedding bands. I know of some really nice ones!

Learning New Skills

09/11/2011

I never knew I could do it. That is, until I watched someone and asked questions as she did it. She made it look so easy! And she did five at one go.

Asking a professional to do it would cost me a fair bit though. So when asked again to do one, I decided to have a go.

Not bad if I might say so myself! Of course, I could have done better. Perhaps with more practice.

I enjoy going to select the things I want, based on the budget I have. Sometimes I put in snacks and packet drinks too. Other times it’s mostly fruit and more fruit.

Then when I put the things in, I enjoy the challenge of arranging them in such a way that they are not only balanced in weight, but also in size and colour.

Here’s another one I did. I forgot to take a photo of one done in between these two.

Hmmmm I wonder if I could go into business doing this! Haha

Aromatic?

27/10/2011

Went for dinner and in the midst of a spoonful heading to my mouth, I caught a whiff of it. The unmistakable smell of…. cigar smoke! The aroma is so very unique. Surprisingly for a non-smoker, I find this is one smoking habit which is pleasant for the bystander.

Having said that, there is much I don’t know about. For instance, the varieties. I never knew that there were so many varieties, such as the black & mild type!

Hubby was given a Cuban cigar on the occasion of the birth of his Boss’ first child. Being a non smoker as well he didn’t know what to do with it. So he left it lying on my office desk, (mine, because I suppose he knew I didn’t mind the smell) Alas, he didn’t know that it cost a fair bit and it was …. just left there…..

Floral Fragrance

23/10/2011

Funeral services are often dreary sad affairs. But not the one I just came from. It could be described as a thanksgiving celebration. No, not because they don’t miss the deceased. Rather, it was because there is much to celebrate on his behalf. His was a life well lived. As a friend once put it, often we are wanting to stay on earth but willing to go. But as Christians, we should be wanting to go, but willing to stay.

For Christians, changing addresses like this is not a sorrowful despairing time. Rather, it is sadness full of hope.

Which is why when flowers were delivered, rather than the usual white and not so bright colours, it was a joy that the place was full of reds, oranges and yellows too. Special deliveries were made from all over. I am amazed at the distances. I didn’t know about Las Vegas flower delivery services before this. I do now, and I shall most certainly use them in future. The fragrance the flowers brought merely added to the sweet and lovely atmosphere. There were well over 50 displays. So very glad!

Special Renovations Needed

22/10/2011

With all the traveling I have been doing of late, plus the extra work that I have been scrambling to finish, AND the year end steam rolling speedily, I think I must look pretty awful. Why do I say that? I have been given body butter. Not one tub. No, not even two tubs. I have been given three tubs – at around the same time!

Well, I for one, do not mind being given goodies such as these, hidden messages included! After all, they are free!

But apart from body butter, what I would really like is a goooood mud mask to go along with all those butter. My face needs a good clean and revive! I would say it needs a renovation!

For Them

21/10/2011

As I was saying in my earlier post, it is sooooo difficult to buy gifts for men! After stewing over the grandparents’ gifts and feeling a measure of success, I suddenly realise I am far from done. There are so many males in my family!

Men don’t appreciate fluffy toys and pretty things. They like the “big boys toys” stuff. Those who are rich have already got what they want. If you get them anything they would probably already own something similar that is branded and cost a whole lot more than your gift!  Such then is the dilemma for the giver is great to say the least. But then of course I am not talking about the men in my family Ahem! For a start, we are hardly in the “rich” category!

But it still doesn’t solve my problem!

Someone has suggested that Mens Gift Basket Ideas may be the place for unique gifts that might just be appreciated. Nothing to lose and a lot of happy males in the house to gain….!

Ideas for Gifts

20/10/2011

With Christmas fast coming up, one of the hardest gifts I have to work on are the grandparent gifts. It’s easier to get gifts for females too. Well, at least I think so! But to get gifts for men? Apart from the usual ghastly socks or tie selection, or dreary book or cumbersome-and-never-used DIY equipment, there is very little that comes to mind.

That is until now. I am amazed how easy shopping on line has made my life!

Now, what did I say was Hubby’s gift…..?

More Gift Ideas

09/10/2011

All this mini diversions from my travel logging is making me wonder and think. The other day, Hubby’s boss showed off his new car. As he extravagantly waved his hand to show the sleek ride, I couldn’t help but notice the new watch on his wrist. He is also known for collecting watches. But only the top-of-the-range stuff.

Hubby and I are not of that league of course, but like I said, it made me think, especially after seeing what Curtis and Co Watches offers.  These watches are no laggards and will not go astray in term of design and aesthetics compared with the top brands. And therefore might just be an idea for a Christmas gift!

AnySuggestions?

08/10/2011

After posting about our anniversary and getting gifts, it got me thinking.

What should I get for my Hubby? Well, not just for our anniversary, but also for upcoming Christmas.

Hubby has simple taste and is easy to please. For instance, jewelry doesn’t interest him. Nor neckties. He gets his own socks and shirts. Trousers are worn till they need to be consigned to the bin.  A simple man with very simple taste.

Yet, now that we can afford a wee bit more, I thought of getting something special for him. Something he doesn’t need but would perhaps learn to like? Haha! Perhaps something like titanium cufflinks? Not just any cufflinks! Yes, they might just be a nice gift for him…. time to go shopping!
