It Happens

19/01/2012

She had followed us to the shop. We were a group of about 10 people. Breakfast was nice. The chitchat was fun. We laughed as we ate. Some were sampling the menu for the first time. Most decided to return for more.

We all got up to go. She followed us, getting into the car with us.

Half way to our destination, she suddenly squeals. She had left her bottle behind at the shop. Her lovely new red bottle.

She wanted us to turn back, but we would have been late for work. So we pressed on.

That was four months ago. FOUR MONTHS.

Hubby and I went back to the shop a few months later. We had our breakfast there. We left.

Then we went back again in January. Recently.

As soon as we sat down and placed our orders, the lady of the shop came over and put this in front of us.

“It’s yours”, she said in Mandarin. “It’s your daughter’s”

“No”, I started to say. But then Hubby said “Yes!”

But I knew we didn’t ever own such a bottle. Hubby smiled and explained – it’s was daughter’s friend’s bottle … and then i remembered.

Four months later. The lady of the shop not only kept the bottle safely, but she remembered who the bottle belonged to!

Why didn’t she give it to us in December? Well, when we went that time, she was unwell and was seated at a table nearby with her head resting on her arms. For the entire half hour we were there. she was resting. getting a nap.

You can imagine the reaction of the girl when she was told that her lovely new red bottle had been returned to her, in pristine condition.

It happens. In the city where I live.

Remembering

12/01/2012

I started to count my blessings the other day.

I am not sure why I did it. Maybe it’s something that fifty-somethings do on their birthday.

I started counting when I went into the hair dressers. I have been to this hairdresser’s for almost 20 years.

I continued counting whilst my hair was being washed. It went on smoothly even when I was having the shampoo rinsed off half an hour later.

Then I got a little side-tracked with conversation while my hair was being trimmed.

Back I went to the count when my hair was being blown dry and conversation was nigh impossible with the raised noise level.

In the end, I could take it anymore.

I took out my phone and texted the people who made an impact in my life. I was so thankful for them….!

It is good to remember what He has done.

Sign of the Times

03/01/2012

We go for breakfast in the local shop. All around, people are coming in for the same.

They enter the shop and find their table.

Seated, they look to place their order.

Orders placed for food and drink, they then do this.

They check their messages and emails before they engage in conversation with the person seated in front of them…..

Starting Them Young

23/11/2011

The young man likes to cook. He cooks well.

He is a bit of an entrepreneur too. So he invites us round for dinner and charges us to taste his food!

Not bad eh?

He enlists people to help. They have to pay for their food too.

How does he do that?!

Anyway, the evening is a resounding success and he has new clients now. They order food and go by to pick the dishes up. He still can’t drive.

Like I said, he is a young man!

Mixed Feelings

02/11/2011

It’s November! We are approaching the time of year of mixed feelings.

Year ends means reviews, reports, meetings, and more meetings. Adjustments and planning and more changes. It means lots of activity to smooth transition, much effort to untangle knots, thinking ahead to avoid pitfalls.

Yet it also means celebration of the good, Christmas is coming, and lots of meeting up meal times with many people. It spells holidays and the young ones coming home for a break.

Well, most of the time they come back…. My two older Arrows won’t be back this year. That will be a strange feeling after so many years. My parents won’t be coming over this year either. We had such fun last year. Also, we have challenges to face about schooling.

But we will be taking time out to paint the gate outside, and Arrow #3′s bedroom! That will be good. Also going to make a trip to a lovely resort not too far away. (More on that later)

Mixed feelings indeed.

Dangerous Spending….

19/10/2011

Going on a spending spree just will not do. All that musing about getting a new laptop can be infectious. I found myself window shopping at clothes! Window shopping in itself is all right. The danger was that I was doing it for hours – time I could ill afford! Not to mention had I purchased even half of what I tried on!

I can’t imagine how it must be for those who don’t just look but have to get. Right now, it looks like we are heading for a double dip recession. Most are hoping for the recession to have bottomed out and that the economy is on the rise again. But I have to say that the signs are not good. Judging by all appearances, we are heading for another bottom before relief will come for many who are currently in desperate financial situations.

Many caught in this spiral will be burdened with debts, often through usage of credit cards and loans. And yet they would go shopping for more. These need to seek debt advice AND implement the advice before they sink even lower!

Simple but Effective

22/09/2011

I like to keep life simple. No need for fancy stuff. No need for complicated things. That doesn’t mean I take shortcuts or over-simplify matters. One needs to strike a balance.

This philosophical attitude translates into how I manage life in general, and my hair specifically. Well, specifically for now.

You see, I am not the sort of person to fuss over my hair. Nor do I want to spend money at the hair dresser. I don’t dye my hair and my stylist has given up hope of ever convincing me to let her experiment!

This means that my hair is growing long and unattended. And has done so for almost a year. I just get the front trimmed. The rest, I manage by using curlers. Yes, you read correctly. In this day and age, I am one who uses curlers.

I wash my hair, put the curlers in and go to bed.

The next morning, I have a nice head of hair which usually looks a lot of money has been spent on it.

But looks can deceiving.

I just don’t like to fuss over my hair, nor do I want to spend ages trying to blow it dry.

Confession – with this style, I can get away with just running my fingers through my hair before I step out of the house and generally still look good. Not bad eh!

Unending

14/09/2011

There are days when the work seems unending. I have to wonder, “Am I making headway or am I regressing?”

But when work is done in the company of others, it can be much easier. That’s when it can even get to be fun.

And then you wish the work or the day wasn’t over so quickly….

Today was one of those days….!

I Got the Message

12/09/2011

OK, so I have been working hard lately.

True, I have been having less sleep of late.

Fine, I admit I haven’t been eating much either.

I acknowledged that I have not drunk enough water or the like.

So I know I don’t really look my best right now.

But this didn’t hit home till I got these…. three lots of gifts from three different people!

I must say I did have a good chuckle.

And then I grabbed the first tub and lathered a good thick layer on!

P.S. It works!

Decent Care

03/08/2011

Recently our cousins from overseas visited. One of them came with a cracked wrist, some kidney infection and I am not sure what else.

He went to see the local doctor here who charged him…. very little compared to where he came from!

It would appear that the system there has little help for those who don’t belong to the system. No social security disability allowances or even decent hospital and outpatient care. Such a shame! He needs to somehow get in on the system first.

Meanwhile, I do hope he will get well soon!
