Fun with the Lotus

On my recent trip home, we discovered a childhood game and tidbit. The lotus root.

First row from left to right – the root as it is sold, head on and side profile, and how I snap off the stem.

Second row shows how fibres of the stem cling. The children can have fun with this. So light that it can float in the air, the fibres can also hold the stem and let it dangle and dangle and dangle.

Third row shows the seeds. There are many little ones and the knack is to get the yonug ones. They are sweeter and juicier.

The bottom row shows what each seed looks like on the inside. Pop it into your mouth and voila! A nice snack indeed!

It was fun sharing some of my childhood with the younger ones.
