The locals, we call it Chendol. Pronounced as “chern-dole”.
Arrow #3 finished school early and we decided to take half and hour out for lunch. We had ordered our food and settled down to wait.
Our drinks came and then I saw it.
To be more exact, I saw a lot of it. The waiters kept walking by our table to fulfill the customers’ requests. You couldn’t miss them. I looked around and noticed that every other table had this same drink. This drink that made my own drink dull in comparison.
The waiter saw my face which spoke volumes – shall I order one too?
He came over to our table.
I asked him if it was what I thought it was. He assured me it was so.
I asked if they served it with coconut milk. He smiled and nodded.
I asked if the bottom was gula melaka. His smiled broaded to a grin and he asked me a question in return “Would you like one?”
I vacillated.
But only for a short while.
I ordered one.
And it did not disappoint.
Even Arrow #3 enjoyed it.
Now I know where to go to get this refreshing drink.
