The King

The king. What immediately comes to mind when you read that?

Music? Elvis? A crown? It would depend on the circle you mix with, your interest.

Now if your interest was food, and fruits to be specific, THIS is what should come to mind!

The ultimate king of fruit – the durian!

For those who are unfamiliar, this succulent, pungent, bitter-sweet gastronomic gift is one of those love-it-or-hate-it distinctives makes that its rounds at coffee breaks, dinner tables, barber shops, offices, you name it. In my country, you are passionate about it or immediately puke upon having it.

So why am I making a post about it?

Because I am most certainly from the FORMER group.

AND because I finally ate the king of the king of fruit. Locals call it the Mou Sang. It was great! Everything I have heard it to be…. Its reputation did not disappoint.

The seed is small, the flesh is smooth, the taste at the back of the throat is superb, every morsel pure delight.

My only regret?

After tucking in to my heart’s content, I was persuaded to try another – the Kim Hong. Whilst delightful to taste as well, it nonetheless did not compare.

Worse, when I returned to the glorious Mou Sang, I was dismayed to find that the taste was no longer the same – it had been adulterated by the Kim Hong!

Lesson is? Don’t mix your durians! Especially where it concerns …. the king!
