Expert Help Required

28/11/2014

My beloved Ovation guitar has a major problem. The entire sound control panel has fallen into the body of the guitar! I am in such distress because I miss playing with it. IMG_9591That guitar and I go back a long way. When I pick up another, it feels like I am a beginner all over again.

Someone did say that maybe I should get replacement. There are all sorts of Starter Packs available and since this instrument is almost twenty years old, perhaps I ought to consider looking for others….

Rainy Weather Havoc

It’s been pouring cats and dogs and more. They don’t call this place the land below the wind for nothing. This part of the country often gets the tail ends of the typhoons which onslaught the Philippines.

Sometimes we get bad landslides, like this one. This time round has been particularly bad – there are many landslides happening. Thankfully no lives have been reported lost.

Wonderful Wind Instruments

Do these curved items look like they belong to an animal?

IMG_9933Well, you would be right. These are shofars. They are made from the horns of animals such as the ram for the shorter shofar, and the antelope (such as the Kudu) for the longer and more curved ones. Blown correctly, they can sound like trumpets and other wind instruments.

I have heard some play these as if they are indeed musical instruments. What skill! Listening to them makes me want to buy saxophone or clarinet or SOMETHING to make some musical notes. In fact, a saxophone would be so nice – I love the mellow sounds.

But I lack skills. The purchase of one would require me to invest in lessons as well…. or perhaps frequenting a place where someone else played it would do too. (A wistful sigh escapes me as I type the last line)

“Rabbit Food”

Recently at our weekly meetings, someone has been asking for vegetable sandwiches. But no eggs, no mayonnaise, no spreads.

The mind boggles. How on earth do you create a reasonably tasty sandwich?

Solution – taadaaa! Behold, the tomato and cucumber only sandwich!SandwichesSurprisingly, it’s a very tasty sandwich! I confess to finishing whatever is leftover at the end of the meeting!

And yes, I coined the phrase “Rabbit Food” ….
