Tea for Two

29/03/2017

A sudden craving. Quite unusual for me. “Pulled tea” is the direct translation of this local drink. The piping hot tea is frothed and partially cooled by pouring it from one container to another. The further apart the two containers are, one in each hand, the more dramatically it appears to be pulled to create bubbles. What an art!

Well, what started off as a time to grab some groceries turned out special because it became like a date over a nice frothy cups tea… that’s right – it ended up as an afternoon date with my best buddy. It’s one thing to enjoy a good cuppa. It’s more than doubly enjoyable when it’s in the company of someone you love being with.

Thankful for time outs with Hubby.

Reasons for Rhythm

27/03/2017

When certain music play, you just want to tap your feet.

When a favourite oldie comes along, it’s a hum-with-it moment if you don’t recall the words.

Then once in a while, there is that one song, full of beat, timing, emphases in the right place, lyrics oh-so-apt… and you just can’t sit still anymore.

That is the reason why I took up the tambourine. It’s not just a percussion instrument. The various taps, sounds, gestures and movements mean something. So when I can’t sit still anymore, when my vocals can’t do justice to the song, when the inside of me says “MORE!”

Some Sundays you will find me at the back of the hall, feet trying to keep in time. Please stay a little distance from me as my hand and arm gestures are usually B I G. Haha!

Continuing the Music Magic!

24/03/2017

I was so inspired by the music from the youth rally two weeks ago that I got out my guitar! Old faithful. Old is an apt description. It’s over two decades old! Still looks good right? The sound is a little thin and I probably need to change the strings again. The rest of the family play on it too, though someone needs to maintain and take care of it… guess who….

An alternative, of course, is to get another guitar! If I do, then I would pass this on to the children while I use the new one. Choice-wise, I would seriously consider epiphone acoustic guitars, check it out at MusiciansFriend.com. There is such a good variety of quality musical instruments there.

Hmmmmm yet another alternative is to point the children to this site and let them get their own! After all, they can afford to get one themselves! It will be money worthwhile spent… and we will be able to make good music at home. That would be magical indeed.

A Night of Music Magic

15/03/2017

Last week the young people had a wonderful rally. More than one hundred of them gathered! They played games and had all kinds of activities. They bopped away to wonderful upbeat and lively tempo music. They settled down to touching and meaningful lyrics. I particularly enjoyed watching the band. The guitarist seemed to be the music director was really on the ball – he carried the music well. He seemed to use a Line 6 FBV Shortboard, the MKII version, because he was able to do soooo much from the stage! Tremendous freedom with controlling the sound. I wonder if he got it from fbv – guitarcenter.com because I know they deliver worldwide, which includes this part of the world ….. The evening ended with a blast and all of us left pumped up and energised. I couldn’t sleep till late…. And no, I am not that young in age, but young in spirit, which is why I took part! Haha!
