Roasted Goose Anyone?

27/05/2019

We were on a kind of a tour with Hubby’s friends. The itinerary had been scheduled by them – we just tagged along. The coach drove on for quite a long distance. It felt like we were heading from one end to another of this vast province in southern China.

Then finally the coach came to a halt. As we got out of the car, we could get a faint hint of a lovely appetising smell. The host explained – this was roast goose territory. But not just any roast goose. It was lychee wood that was being used. How awesome that was… the meal was delectable. The company was enjoyable. The experience was unforgettable.

Just writing this makes me think about going again!

Nesting & Caring

Amazing…birds nest  in  all  sorts  of  places.  Look  at  this  one.  Perched  in  a  rather  small  place,  a corner  of  a window  ledge.  We  even  thought  it might  fall  off,  or  worse,  lose  the  eggs. But  no…  In just a few weeks,  the  two  eggs  hatched  and  the  chicks  grew  fast!It served as a good reminder to me during a difficult time, of how God says that He takes care of the birds … how much more He would take care of us! Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” I know I have to deal with things in the future, but I dont need to stress over them. I can be rested because He cares. Thankful.

Kueh Pronounced Kwaay

10/05/2019

So, I have a sweet tooth. It can be Western or Asian. Either will do fine.

When I look at the Western style desserts, my palate tells me that I like it strong tasting – stronger the taste, the better. Even rhubarb custard sounds delightful!

For the Asian however, I like it subtly tasty. Like these cakes for instance. They are the local Nyonya style ones. Like the second from left, second row one. Kueh Talam, made with a hint of coconut… Yummm! Oh dont forget the first one on the left, top row – the Onde-Onde (pronounced Onn-day onn-day) is covered with coconut shavings. But when you bite into it, there is an explosion of delightful gula melaka – palm sugar. I could go on… but I am already salivating … so I need to stop typing, get up and go look for something to satisfy that sugar craving. Chat more later….

Unspoken Unexpected

06/05/2019

Only a few knew of my disappointment at that event…
I had worked hard and was looking forward to tucking into a small slice of a special cake. There were many present but I still felt confident of having a taste because there were two decent sized ones. Alas, before the end of the evening, I went over to the table and found that there was not even a crumb left.

Lo and behold, more than a month later, out of the blue, I receive a special delivery, to say thanks for an unrelated matter. It was THAT special cake.

It is such a joy to know to such personal care. Every bite was worth the disappointment and wait. And no, this isn’t such a good photo of it! But I was so eager to tuck into it, I wasnt prepared to take much time on the photo!WhatsApp Image 2019-05-02 at 09.52.49
