Room with a View

Sometimes it is just nice to sit and be still. It’s been such a hectic few months. From multiple weddings to funerals, from Christmas plays to Christmas parties, from rehearsals to performances, from family time to work catch-ups…. It’s time to relax. Be quiet. And just chill.

What better way than to do it from a room with a view? Apart from being by the beach, or enjoying a walk in the park… sometimes I just want to hibernate. Thankful for the view I get….
Do you like what you see?

Working Out

So we don’t have a helper at home. It’s a good weekly workout for me! These are the equipment I use! haha!

My favourite is the mop. The head is flat, and the cords are long. The stick is flexible enough for me to push down on to the floor. Love it!

I am almost tempted to just continue and not have a helper… But. ah well…..!

Busy Buzzing

He does this every other weekend.

He will get dressed and then go downstairs to do his routine – a safe and sure one.

First, he makes sure the fuel is adequate.

Then he checks the equipment is in good shape.

After that, he test starts it.

Only when he fully satisfied, and only when he is, then he goes to the garden and fully turn the mean machine on.

A portable grass cutter – the tank of fuel sits strapped to his back while the long handled cutting end is held away, controlled with two hands at strategic gripping points.

Dream Abode

We are still talking about our wonderful holiday recently. One would have thought that this we thought it would last us for a while. Instead it has whetted our appetite for more travel! What’s more when we found this lovely property! Don’t get me wrong. We also love where we are now. It’s a lovely place – naturally pristine beaches and wonderful diving, fantastic mountains nearby… you name it… It’s just that this could be another place we could spend our sunset years in. Of course we would have to commute… But that’s traveling… and the bug we have caught!

In Maintenance Mode

Since coming back from our holidays, it would almost seem that everything is breaking down and needing repair! Well it would seem like that from the way Hubby is muttering to himself these days! He keeps saying this and that needs fixing. Why, just now he said he was looking for used machines to do some of the repairs jobs around the house. I could her him murmuring, “I don’t need brand new costly ones.” He tells himself “I won’t be using it often.”

I smile to myself as I hear him mumble and tinker away, glad that he is DIY savvy!

Oh dear! A Blogger’s nightmare – the internet is down. All because of a storm that hit a few critical places. The entire place is out and we don’t know when it will be back.

What’s worse, the modem seems to have been affected too. Not good, not good.

Blackouts in the night means it is reasonably cool, especially in if there is a breeze. Failure in the daytime means at least we don’t have to contend insufficient light and over supply of enthusiastic mosquitoes! (Yes I am trying to be positive about this…!)

We really need to look into having a good generator… And perhaps now, a new modem too….

New Year New Stuff?

Ah! With a house full of young people and many more visiting, things are boisterous and full of life.

But it also means that things are well used, and in the process of wear and tear, they  fall apart and need replacing. Apart from the door handles in our house coming apart (see photo collage below) we have had other maintenance issues….

IMG_2433The latest is the flooring in parts of our house. They are coming off and require special adhesives to ensure they stay down. Then there is the gate – despite having had a coat of paint seemingly not so long ago. I will want to put another on.

Perhaps I can persuade my now-at-home son to pick up D-I-Y…..

Cabinet Capers

Back to the topic of repairs. It does seem like our year coming to an end is going to be a repair-ful one!

This time it is kitchen cabinets – they are getting rather worn out. So worn out that many of the doors do not close properly. Some drawers squeak and protest each time they are opened. Perhaps the previous carpenter was not as up to scratch as we thought. We start getting other quotations.

Then Hubby comes home with a proposition. He thinks we should consider getting new cabinets at this website – wholesalers and distributers are usually cheaper. What’s more, the samples look like they would be great in organising our kitchen. Perhaps we will see an end to our search for new and decent cabinets soon…..!

MORE Repairs!

As the saying goes, “If it doesn’t rain, it pours”

First the kitchen stuff went wonky.

Then the bathroom door went. My poor firstborn was stuck in there. Thankfully not indecently!
IMG_2428Now the kitchen cabinets need looking at! They are not closing properly. Thankfully we can easily obtain kitchen cabinets direct from online manufacturers and wholesale suppliers. It’s made easy too. Just a click away and lots of advice therein. Phew! I do hope I can get things ready in time for the visitors’ invasion!

Sudden Repairs Needed

Goodness! In the run up to Christmas and the anticipation of frenzied cooking, we find ourselves also needing repairs in the house. Not just simple repairs but also safety repairs. The cooker in the kitchen needs repairs too. Thankful for supply companies like harris welding who are able to assist even at short notice during this busy time of the year. In particular we want the kitchen done up well because of our foster son’s impending return. He is a chef so we expect him to want to conjure up some dishes to show off his culinary skills. The last time he did so, we were fattened up by a few kilos each. We will look into other forms of “repairs” later (read “diet”!)
