Right Rhythm

06/03/2014

Arrow #1’s band members include this chap who is a whizz on the drums. Whilst I don’t know much about drumming, I know that when he plays his style adds something special to the music! I am told he has a room in his house which houses his drum kit and where the band goes to jam. I wonder if his set is a Tama Silverstar Lacquer… I have heard that this is good and I know he is particular on what he uses. I must remember to ask Arrow #1…

The Sound

24/07/2013

Well, the music yesterday was pretty all right. But the subsequent speaker? I dont know if it was his microphone technique, his speaking style or the handheld microphone was faulty – his voice kept fading in and out. Or perhaps it was the sound system or speakers. Whatever it was, he could barely be heard in parts. I think someone should tell him or whoever is responsible that all these factors made the session quite difficult to follow. He should be given more training on public communication. He should be given a better microphone. Or better support from the tech side.

It is a shame really. The topic was good, the audience was willing, and the equipment is of a high standard. The problems just should not have arisen.

Surmounting Challenges

05/11/2012

As I said to the young man this morning, it wasn’t until he made the switch from one sound system to the other that the shortfall of the former was obvious. But with the latter system came along a whine which would go louder before it disappeared….

Yes, the sound system in the church has been playing up. Worse, there was a burning smell coming from the mixer. The system has been serving us well for more than ten years. But it does look like we have to buy a new one soon. Electronics can only last so long; sooner or later it will become more troublesome to upkeep, especially when well passed its shelf life. This will cost a fair bit as other things such as stereo stands and new speakers would have to be added as well. I am glad that I don’t have to be the one to figure out what is needed, but needed is the word, and soon. We have a major event coming up!

Tempted to Get One

24/10/2011

As the end of the year looms, stress levels rise in the office. It is time to do asset checks and submit accounts and reports. Sometimes I just have to wonder why we put ourselves through such stresses as our accumulated “things” increase! My team get all sweaty and their foreheads develop extra furrows as they try to track down the respective items on their lists.

In times like these I am tempted to invest in a barcode scanner. It would certainly help to keep track of these physical assets’ whereabouts!
