HE TOOK MY PLACE

16/04/2022

HE TOOK MY PLACE

“You’re free to go!”
Shouted the jailer.
For a moment there
I needed an inhaler.
I couldn’t breathe.
Can this be true?
I hear my name
Over and over again.
I’m not going to lie
I’m afraid to die
When I hear shouts
“Crucify! Crucify!”

Don’t you know?
I am Israel’s hero!
I lead a revolution
There is no confusion
Never mind the mistakes
A few men their lives I take
This is the hour
I am Israel’s saviour!
The other two are not so lucky
Only I got set free
They all must love me?

Walking past the prison gates
I catch a glimpse of the bloodied face
The Man who took my place.
Under a crown of thorns
Body bruised and torn
I cannot unsee.
I shiver and stare.

Suddenly
He turns and catches my hardened eyes
“Barabbas,” softly He cries
“Follow me.”

New Normal Goodies

02/10/2020

So much for wanting to blog here regularly. Pandemic turns our lives upside down. Welcome to the new normal!

Still, all is not bad. I have become not only proficient in video conferencing, but am considered an authority on it by many at work! Not bad for a white-haired boomer.

I have also been able to paint most of my house, accidentally got a green wall thanks to my Hubby getting a specific paint colour which was closer to green than the expected blue. Again, not bad for a boomer?

Weight loss was another benefit! Now to keep it off! Ah, what a challenge!

One truly wonderful outcome was to be able to pray via video conferencing over forty days, at dawn. Undeterred by physical distancing, people young and old, joined in from as far as both corners of the globe. How cool is that.

Now we enter another round of controlled movements… Believing more good will come out of this still.

Paint and Ponder

09/04/2020

Climbing up and down the ladder to get to all the nooks and crannies.

The ceiling in my house is high. Higher than most houses. I had to purchase a taller than usual ladder to reach the ceiling fans. Imagine having to paint those walls! And the ceilings! Just as well I didnt have bouts of vertigo! So glad that I was fit enough to do this! And most of all, that I enjoyed it despite the aches after.

With such thankfulness, as I reached up to paint the top of the walls, It crossed my mind  – Why am I not using the right tools? Shouldn’t I put an extension on my paint brush or roller instead? I realised that the post-painting session pains in my shoulder could have be lessened had I taken the extra steps to be more prepared. Instead of thinking beforehand, preparing in advance, and thereby using the right methods which could possibly ended up with a quicker and with a more comfortable conclusion, I rushed headlong and just did it… In this case, lesson learned – shortcuts don’t work without having some fore-planning. Just do it – put some though to it!

Preparing to Paint

28/03/2020

“Do something new” we were encouraged. Well, even before the encouragement to do so, we had prepared to do so. Old folks getting down to some DIY. We have done this kind of thing before, but not at our present house. So when news came about impending restricted movement allowed, we got ready… Lots to do!

Here we are then. Two old(er) folks, going to attempt something we haven’t done in years…!

Some before and after photos in the next post… perhaps!

Integrity When No One Sees

18/03/2020

The virus has come to my nation, spreading itself speedily. To try and slow down the spread, a fortnight of restricted movement has begun. At the start of these two weeks, I am reminded to live (walk) in the midst of our abodes (within my house) with simplicity, uprightness, integrity, and from the inside out. That our conduct shown in our emotions, passions, is that of courage and boldness (perfect heart)

Start as we mean to continue, and number our days well.

Angels Come in Uniforms too

20/02/2020

Driving to work I felt a unnatural “twitch” on the car, followed by a blast from the left rear wheel, and the car behaved a little drunkenly. Edged it to the side of the road, and praised God for safety. As I waited for Hubby to come (by e-hail taxi) I loosened the nuts and jacked up the car. I wondered how to get the spare out – this is something I never figured out! Lo and behold, God sent this gallant policeman named Charles! He swiftly took over, adjusted my jack (“Aunty! Merbahaya oh! Sikit Sahaja!” meaning “Aunt, This is dangerous! It is on only a little bit”), twirled the equipment effortlessly and voila! All done as my Hubby arrived. He refused any gift of thanks, saying that he was on the way to work, but turned around to help when he saw no one assisting me! How cool is that.

Check out his dashing looks here. And if you see him around, do thank him again for me.

Nesting & Caring

17/05/2019

Amazing…birds nest  in  all  sorts  of  places.  Look  at  this  one.  Perched  in  a  rather  small  place,  a corner  of  a window  ledge.  We  even  thought  it might  fall  off,  or  worse,  lose  the  eggs. But  no…  In just a few weeks,  the  two  eggs  hatched  and  the  chicks  grew  fast!It served as a good reminder to me during a difficult time, of how God says that He takes care of the birds … how much more He would take care of us! Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” I know I have to deal with things in the future, but I dont need to stress over them. I can be rested because He cares. Thankful.

Memories

23/04/2018

This day and age, it is so easy to snap photos on our phones and then wonder what to do with them. Post on social media?

I wonder if we ever go back to them again? Many tend to live for the moment.

In the old days (showing my age!) we would think twice, no thrice, before pressing the shutter. A roll of film did not come by cheap. After the roll was completely snapped up, one had to get the photos developed. I remember the days when we could send the roll off and get the prints a few weeks later. At that time, that facility seemed like a major step forward!

Then came digital cameras, and smart phones… and even better cameras. So yes, I wonder how much memory goes with each series of photos taken, seeing that it is so very easy to snap a moment.

Unlike this. I came across this photo recently. I can tell you the exact moment I snapped it – the occasion and location – and the story that goes behind the photo.

And the story doesnt stop with just the moment the photo was taken… There is a story after this story as well… but both would be for the next post…

Stay tuned….

Debut… And More

29/01/2018

So….  This then is my debut. I’ve been on stage before – during my school days, and if I recall right, twice during short performances at church services. This however was different. Together with a small cast, I was coached by a professional, and it took months.
I can’t say I didnt enjoy it. I used to struggle a lot with being the focus of attention. Handicapped me. Hindered me. I have healed and grown much since. Hence this debut. Enjoyed working with the team. I learned a lot.

Guess what? There might be a reprise, and this time at a Black Box. Wow…. Stay tuned.

World Heritage Site

16/02/2017

What a chance! To visit the world heritage site of Petra. Visions of Indiana Jones and the trademark music come to mind. What an amazing scene! What an incredible backdrop.

Just being there makes me feel small. Indeed, the expanse and extent of the area takes my breath away. So very glad to have had the opportunity to visit. The 1.3km walk in the Siq was both unique and memorable. I would be happy to do it all over again.
