SURPRISES!!!

08/01/2015

For the first one, they let me talk as they cleared the table. We were in a restaurant and had had a lovely meal. I happily chatted away and then a cake appeared.

I said, “Wow, what’s this?”

Brother-in-law says, “Dessert”.

“Oh,” I said. I was expecting fruits as usual.

Then I looked closer and saw the candles and the wordings.

IMG_3941_2Boy, did I get caught out!

A few days later, I got back to work. I had been traveling for my actual birthday. Whilst I had been on leave, three people celebrated their birthdays in my office. Fancy that! Two are members of the small team we have, and one was dropping by the office. What timing!

Anyway, while away, they sent me a photo to say that the white cake below on the left was my birthday cake which they were eating in my absence. Hah!

When I got back, I got stuck into my work, trying hard to clear my table. Suddenly there is movement at the doorway and the lights go out. Haha! They tried to surprise me! This time, with the cake on the right! Amazing colours and taste!

What joy to be blessed twice this year! Feeling loved…..

Expert Help Required

28/11/2014

My beloved Ovation guitar has a major problem. The entire sound control panel has fallen into the body of the guitar! I am in such distress because I miss playing with it. IMG_9591That guitar and I go back a long way. When I pick up another, it feels like I am a beginner all over again.

Someone did say that maybe I should get replacement. There are all sorts of Starter Packs available and since this instrument is almost twenty years old, perhaps I ought to consider looking for others….

I suppose I should consider….

Rainy Weather Havoc

10/11/2014

It’s been pouring cats and dogs and more. They don’t call this place the land below the wind for nothing. This part of the country often gets the tail ends of the typhoons which onslaught the Philippines.

Sometimes we get bad landslides, like this one. This time round has been particularly bad – there are many landslides happening. Thankfully no lives have been reported lost.
IMG_9615We cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like across the Sulu Sea. I have some friends there. I hope they are well.

An Amazing Sight

12/09/2014

It’s dark and it’s pouring cats and dogs. Inside, even before the sun rose, people began to trickle in. Then they came in droves. Soon, the place was packed. It was still pouring outside. But inside, the people had gathered for a meeting. A pre-dawn meeting. How awesome is that! IMG_7746This, then, was the sight that greeted those who arrived late – the umbrella holder is overflowing. There are umbrellas all over the foyer outside to avoid wetting the carpet inside. Wow!

Learning and Fun

01/09/2014

We went away for a day to visit some students. We had been asked to do an English project with them. Rather than to do written work which a lot of other teams and groups of people would normally do, we opted to go for verbal skills to let them feel more comfortable speaking English. The games and activities were all geared towards making them speak. Incentives were given – if they spoke in English they would be rewarded with little sweets. If they spoke in any other language, they would have sweets taken away!

What fun they had. The room was tiny and that meant it heated up really quickly. Lots of screaming and laughter especially after lunch time – the sleepy nodding time Haha!

At the end, we told them that they were champions and gave them more rewards – specially made cupcakes. This was their response to the cupcakes!

IMG_7388Everyone of us agreed that we had a fantastic time and were eager to return again…. Now I have to think of more games!

Phew Phew Phew

13/08/2014

I had gone to see someone at their office to discuss some matters. Prior to going, I had been listening to some music. When I got there, I did my usual – put my precious headphones in my little pot and close the pot. I distinctively recall taking the pot down instead of putting it in my handbag. Then I went into the office.

Later, as I left, I didn’t notice if I took the little container with me. Off I drove to my next destination.

I sat down to wait to be called. To my horror, I couldn’t find the precious little cream box. I searched every pocket and section of my handbag as well as the computer bag. It was not to be found.

I called the previous place I went to . They searched and no, it wasn’t there. I had visions of visiting Yamaha at MF to get another set. After all they would be the ones I can trust…

Then I decided to try one more place.

After my appointment, I headed to my car. It was raining. I made a dash for it. I unlocked the car doors and hopped in.

And there it was. Sitting happily at the section near the gears. What a relief! I really like these ones….

Fast Food

29/06/2014

There is fast food and there is fast food. The ones I knew before were often oil-saturated and not very healthy. Imagine my surprise when we realised that there was an alternative.

Here is Hubby queueing up. We had taken a bus to this huge mall. After wandering about, we got a little peckish and decided to get a meal. We noticed what seemed to be quite a filling warm meal being served at this counter.

After a little wait, Hubby came over to where I had sat down, booking some seats and resting my feet.
IMG_8159

This is what he brought over. He had a beef stew and I had a baked potato.IMG_8160

The beef was surprisingly tender. The sauce, just nice. IMG_8162Loved the sour cream that went with the baked potato!

Hubby and I struggled to finish the big portions. Are these Australian portions? Yum!

Weddings Galore!

18/06/2014

Three weddings in two weeks!

Three dinners in two weeks!

Three venues in two weeks!

So what did we do? How do we choose?

We decided…. not to go for any!!!

We’d have love to go for all three but we just couldn’t. Listening to the stress stories made us want to tell them to just relax and to get the Bridal Emergency Kit. Some plans are so elaborate that it’s a crisis waiting to happen!

We opted for a quiet evening instead because we have been so busy and tired! IMG_1326

Answered Though Unspoken

12/06/2014

It was an unspoken desire. Call it a prayer but it was more a desire. I was feeling peckish that day. Surprisingly hungry. But I didn’t say anything because I figured I ought to just concentrate on my work and have my usual cereal lunch later.

Lo and behold, out of the blue, suddenly someone sends this!

It was hot. It was fresh. It was filling. It was tasty.

So thankful!

Another Unexpected Visitor

24/05/2014

It just lay there, as if stunned, near the window. I thought perhaps it had hit the glass and had winded itself. It must have flown into the house accidentally and was trying to make its way out.

So I picked it up and took it outside, intending to let it go.
IMG_5608It looked at me with its sad eyes.

Then it closed its eyes!

I tried to wake it up. There were no apparent injuries and it didn’t wince at anything I touched.

It was indeed a sad moment when despite my attempts, it refused to be revived.

I left it in a flower pot nearby. Thinking perhaps it would fly away by itself later.

Alas, when I came back, it had indeed left the pot, but only because my helper had taken it away….
