Magnet Magic

02/06/2017

There is just something about magical about magnets. Coming in all shapes and sizes, they can give much pleasure to the little ones. Learning shapes, colours, and yes, even alphabet and numbers. From there, they can even spell and make phrases.

Fridge doors are the best places to have them.  Given a good variety of good quality magnets, you can watch the children play as you mooch about nearby. Add to the magnets other materials which can and cant be stuck by the magnet, and the children will learn even more. The possibilities are quite endless!

Now that my children have outgrown these versatile entertainment, I still keep them around because they are handy for when visitors’ children come around! Yay!

This Time Five Years Ago

21/05/2017

How times flies. This time five years ago, our second offspring was graduating and giving the valedictory speech.

Today will see him having worked for five years, fulfilling his bond in this nearby country where he had gone upon accepting a scholarship. He’s going to graduate again, having done studies by night as he worked. Proud of him, his perseverance, and diligence. Thankful. Reminiscent of my time of leaving home at a young age, to study and work, and then end up staying for twelve years! I, too, celebrated my 18th and 21st birthday away from family. Thankful that he had good friends to celebrate with…..

Taugeh Tips

20/04/2017

Hubby decided to experiment. He wanted to know how to grow beansprouts. What an adventurous and curious mind he has! He’s been at it for two weeks now. And look at the wonderful result!

Even if I had not been a fan of this fast-growing vegetable he would have “converted” me! So very nice! Yumm! Especially with some fried-to-crisp salted fish!

Continuing the Music Magic!

24/03/2017

I was so inspired by the music from the youth rally two weeks ago that I got out my guitar! Old faithful. Old is an apt description. It’s over two decades old! Still looks good right? The sound is a little thin and I probably need to change the strings again. The rest of the family play on it too, though someone needs to maintain and take care of it… guess who….

An alternative, of course, is to get another guitar! If I do, then I would pass this on to the children while I use the new one. Choice-wise, I would seriously consider epiphone acoustic guitars, check it out at MusiciansFriend.com. There is such a good variety of quality musical instruments there.

Hmmmmm yet another alternative is to point the children to this site and let them get their own! After all, they can afford to get one themselves! It will be money worthwhile spent… and we will be able to make good music at home. That would be magical indeed.

Chillax

28/10/2015

Learned a new word! Chill and relax put together, becomes Chillax!

Hubby had a special gift for his birthday – a coupon for two to have a full body massage. Fantastic!

I am the one who likes the massage more, but this promised to be one that he might enjoy too. The only drawback was that a three-day notice was needed. Days went by and it became weeks. We still hadnt gone!

Then one day, on the spur of the moment (otherwise known as having a long full and shoulder aching day) he called the place and asked if they had an opening.

They did!

And off we went.

This was the first step – having a foot soak of five minutes and then having the foot dried.
IMG_1580Needless to say we had a really nice shoulder unknotted time… great way to hit the sack after. Ahhhhhh

Taking Turns

01/03/2015

First the older one fall ill. It’s confirmed – he has dengue fever. Off I rush to go and nurse him for a few days. He is so weak that when the platelets begin to rise, I bring him back home to recover. He has lost so much weight. Initially he didn’t even have energy to drink, and he lost his appetite. Thankful that he is now recovered though he is still below his weight before he fell ill.IMG_4316

Not long after, the second one comes home for holidays, and on the second day, he cuts himself while playing frisbee on the beach. Three stitches later, he has to slow right down, even use crutches a for a few days, and has to have Momma nurse him in a different way – daily dressings!

Wow what an eventful time my two Arrows have had! Momma has been quite stretched too. But thankfully, all’s well that ends well.

SURPRISES!!!

08/01/2015

For the first one, they let me talk as they cleared the table. We were in a restaurant and had had a lovely meal. I happily chatted away and then a cake appeared.

I said, “Wow, what’s this?”

Brother-in-law says, “Dessert”.

“Oh,” I said. I was expecting fruits as usual.

Then I looked closer and saw the candles and the wordings.

IMG_3941_2Boy, did I get caught out!

A few days later, I got back to work. I had been traveling for my actual birthday. Whilst I had been on leave, three people celebrated their birthdays in my office. Fancy that! Two are members of the small team we have, and one was dropping by the office. What timing!

Anyway, while away, they sent me a photo to say that the white cake below on the left was my birthday cake which they were eating in my absence. Hah!

When I got back, I got stuck into my work, trying hard to clear my table. Suddenly there is movement at the doorway and the lights go out. Haha! They tried to surprise me! This time, with the cake on the right! Amazing colours and taste!

What joy to be blessed twice this year! Feeling loved…..

Diligence at Dawn

01/10/2014

My Hubby and I have been waking up early the past weeks. This habit has spilled over to making trips to the nearby park to walk there. It’s nice to get out of the house early. But I must say it’s not always nice to walk. I bought myself new shoes to help.

But I guess the one thing that would really keep me going – just seeing sunrises like this and more. IMG_1265Oh, and of course, being able to go for walks with Hubby!

Busy Buzzing

20/09/2014

He does this every other weekend.

He will get dressed and then go downstairs to do his routine – a safe and sure one.

First, he makes sure the fuel is adequate.

Then he checks the equipment is in good shape.

After that, he test starts it.

Only when he fully satisfied, and only when he is, then he goes to the garden and fully turn the mean machine on.

A portable grass cutter – the tank of fuel sits strapped to his back while the long handled cutting end is held away, controlled with two hands at strategic gripping points.

IMG_1139He’s mastered this art and does it as part of his exercise routine. Cool eh?

Up Up and Away

26/06/2014

It was a special deal. Hubby and I got carried away in excitement. It was such a good bargain. We decided to put the money down and work out the remaining logistics later.

IMG_8083So it was, that we hopped on to a plane a few weeks later and we went on a five and a half hour flight south of the equator. It was our first trip south together. What fun and excitement…. especially since we didn’t know what would be in store!

More in the next posting then….
