Hibernating with Herbs

09/10/2020

Part of the new normal is to have home-grown herbs! Now for some of you, this might not be a new thing. Some might even have super green fingers.

For me, however I am just glad that this batch of herbs havent died on me! Take this mint for instance. Together with a few others, it was gifted by a friend, and came with instructions on the care needed. Needless to say, I have worked to ensure they are followed!

I am reminded Colossians 2:6,7 “As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built and built up in Him, established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding with thanksgiving”

One has to be intentional in growing.

Roasted Goose Anyone?

27/05/2019

We were on a kind of a tour with Hubby’s friends. The itinerary had been scheduled by them – we just tagged along. The coach drove on for quite a long distance. It felt like we were heading from one end to another of this vast province in southern China.

Then finally the coach came to a halt. As we got out of the car, we could get a faint hint of a lovely appetising smell. The host explained – this was roast goose territory. But not just any roast goose. It was lychee wood that was being used. How awesome that was… the meal was delectable. The company was enjoyable. The experience was unforgettable.

Just writing this makes me think about going again!

Memories

23/04/2018

This day and age, it is so easy to snap photos on our phones and then wonder what to do with them. Post on social media?

I wonder if we ever go back to them again? Many tend to live for the moment.

In the old days (showing my age!) we would think twice, no thrice, before pressing the shutter. A roll of film did not come by cheap. After the roll was completely snapped up, one had to get the photos developed. I remember the days when we could send the roll off and get the prints a few weeks later. At that time, that facility seemed like a major step forward!

Then came digital cameras, and smart phones… and even better cameras. So yes, I wonder how much memory goes with each series of photos taken, seeing that it is so very easy to snap a moment.

Unlike this. I came across this photo recently. I can tell you the exact moment I snapped it – the occasion and location – and the story that goes behind the photo.

And the story doesnt stop with just the moment the photo was taken… There is a story after this story as well… but both would be for the next post…

Stay tuned….

Magnet Magic

02/06/2017

There is just something about magical about magnets. Coming in all shapes and sizes, they can give much pleasure to the little ones. Learning shapes, colours, and yes, even alphabet and numbers. From there, they can even spell and make phrases.

Fridge doors are the best places to have them.  Given a good variety of good quality magnets, you can watch the children play as you mooch about nearby. Add to the magnets other materials which can and cant be stuck by the magnet, and the children will learn even more. The possibilities are quite endless!

Now that my children have outgrown these versatile entertainment, I still keep them around because they are handy for when visitors’ children come around! Yay!

Ginormous Gastronomic Glee

13/06/2016

I kid you not. The prawns were huge.

But wait. I am jumping ahead of myself.

It was a free afternoon during our trip away because Hubby’s meeting time was changed. So we asked some friends at very short notice if anyone was free for lunch. Lo and behold, a group of half a dozen friends managed to meet up with us. Of these friends, there was one we had not seen for over 30 years! What a good time we had together!

We were treated to a splendid meal served at the Kampung Ku Restaurant at the Lake View Club. The signature fresh water prawn noodles was a memorable dish not just for it’s taste but also the size of the prawns!
IMG_5482Each prawn was divided lengthwise. Each half was a good 4 mouthful in size.

Cooked with the special sauce and noodle, it was so flavourful, I had four helpings of it! Definitely a must if you are in that part of the city! Yum!

Curry Puff Day

25/04/2016

What an amazing day. Three sets of curry puff from three different members of staff in one morning. image

It’s kinda fun.

It also shows our similar tastebuds Haha!

What’s more, two were purchased from the same shop!

Don’t you just love such folk?!

Edible Scales

25/04/2016

Who would have thought such things existed for fresh-water fish? I certainly never knew!

We were told that this particular fish, the Empura, is highly prized and very expensive. Hubby was gifted one and so we decided to take it to a restaurant to check it out.

When we showed it to the chefs, they immediately recognised it! Then they wanted to charge us extra to cook it! Hubby decided to walk away, and I joined him, grumbling as we did. That got the manager on duty worried because there were other guests. Good tactic eh?

Next thing you know, we got a good price for it and settled down with some friends to wait for it.

The wait was certainly worth it!

The fish was sooooo nice! You have to taste it to know what I mean. The flesh melts in your mouth! The scales are nice to eat – they have an unusual texture – firm yet not rubbery. Yummy…. The simple steamed as is was the perfect way to cook it, bringing out the full flavours of the fish. Well done chefs!

I am now waiting for Hubby to be gifted with another … I hope it will be as soon as possible!

SURPRISES!!!

08/01/2015

For the first one, they let me talk as they cleared the table. We were in a restaurant and had had a lovely meal. I happily chatted away and then a cake appeared.

I said, “Wow, what’s this?”

Brother-in-law says, “Dessert”.

“Oh,” I said. I was expecting fruits as usual.

Then I looked closer and saw the candles and the wordings.

IMG_3941_2Boy, did I get caught out!

A few days later, I got back to work. I had been traveling for my actual birthday. Whilst I had been on leave, three people celebrated their birthdays in my office. Fancy that! Two are members of the small team we have, and one was dropping by the office. What timing!

Anyway, while away, they sent me a photo to say that the white cake below on the left was my birthday cake which they were eating in my absence. Hah!

When I got back, I got stuck into my work, trying hard to clear my table. Suddenly there is movement at the doorway and the lights go out. Haha! They tried to surprise me! This time, with the cake on the right! Amazing colours and taste!

What joy to be blessed twice this year! Feeling loved…..

Just Lovin’ It

08/09/2014

She’s not quite two and yet she articulates her limited vocabulary ever so well. One very consistent and insistent word we hear is “Guitar”. Her Daddy will play his guitar for her before she goes to bed. Just two songs, and then she will happily turn over in her bed and snuggle to sleep.

Last night, she visited a new place. There, to her delight, there were two guitars! She plucked quite expertly at the strings of the one within her reach. She was quite firm but not without control. Amazing child!

I think I shall suggest to her parents to look out for some Hot Deals online to get something for her this Christmas. You’d never know – they might have a protege here……!
