Paint and Ponder

09/04/2020

Climbing up and down the ladder to get to all the nooks and crannies.

The ceiling in my house is high. Higher than most houses. I had to purchase a taller than usual ladder to reach the ceiling fans. Imagine having to paint those walls! And the ceilings! Just as well I didnt have bouts of vertigo! So glad that I was fit enough to do this! And most of all, that I enjoyed it despite the aches after.

With such thankfulness, as I reached up to paint the top of the walls, It crossed my mind  – Why am I not using the right tools? Shouldn’t I put an extension on my paint brush or roller instead? I realised that the post-painting session pains in my shoulder could have be lessened had I taken the extra steps to be more prepared. Instead of thinking beforehand, preparing in advance, and thereby using the right methods which could possibly ended up with a quicker and with a more comfortable conclusion, I rushed headlong and just did it… In this case, lesson learned – shortcuts don’t work without having some fore-planning. Just do it – put some though to it!

BOLDness in Uncertain Times

15/03/2020

Panic buying. Empty shelves. Rise in racism. Heightened fears. Selfishness and selflessness being displayed. True colours being exhibited. Our hearts are so deceitful, we can fool ourselves.

More bad news than good news… but nothing new about that!

These are the times we live in right now. No place will be spared. It will get worse before it gets better. But it is not all doom and gloom. We have been warned of these increasing and impending calamities, disasters.

Hence this facebook post contains a timely message of hope. But more than that, it realigns perspective. For more, check this site and take courage, be wise, be emboldened.

Dumplings Delight!

05/06/2019

“Let’s go eat dumplings for dinner,” they said.

“We know the best place, ” they said.

Well now, we have all heard that before. The best this and the best that. But best can be very relative. Especially when led to a somewhat dimly lit alley, in between the back of two rows of shoptlots. The tables are simple foldable ones, and the chairs are easily stackable, portable ones.

There were so many customers, I began to change my mind.

Dumplings was the first item ordered. The rest were the supplements. When it arrived, looking like this… I had second thoughts again. They didnt exactly looked appetising!

I gingerly picked one up with my chopsticks, and bit into it.

My tastebuds were very pleasantly surprised! The minced pork was nicely chopped but not too fine, so you can still savour the texture. The flavour was full as the mixture spices blended so well I didnt need to add anything more to it. I like mine “unadulterated” and without sauce or dips so this was right up my street. The flour skin was not too thick, but didnt fall apart too much either.

Served in the simple way, it didn’t cost an arm or leg either! I am glad I was persuaded to go and try!

Edible Scales

25/04/2016

Who would have thought such things existed for fresh-water fish? I certainly never knew!

We were told that this particular fish, the Empura, is highly prized and very expensive. Hubby was gifted one and so we decided to take it to a restaurant to check it out.

When we showed it to the chefs, they immediately recognised it! Then they wanted to charge us extra to cook it! Hubby decided to walk away, and I joined him, grumbling as we did. That got the manager on duty worried because there were other guests. Good tactic eh?

Next thing you know, we got a good price for it and settled down with some friends to wait for it.

The wait was certainly worth it!

The fish was sooooo nice! You have to taste it to know what I mean. The flesh melts in your mouth! The scales are nice to eat – they have an unusual texture – firm yet not rubbery. Yummy…. The simple steamed as is was the perfect way to cook it, bringing out the full flavours of the fish. Well done chefs!

I am now waiting for Hubby to be gifted with another … I hope it will be as soon as possible!

Ouch

The rings were just too tight and I was going for a medical test which required them to be removed. So what could I do?

Thankfully I recalled a little trick I saw. A video clip was sent to me and I had watched it with rapt attention. Boy, was I glad I did!

Out came some line. I didnt have anything strong, but the dental floss seemed to be sufficient.

I would it round and round my finger. Then slipped one end under the ring. I began to pull the loose end and as it made its way round and round my finger, it slid the ring over my joint and voila!

Was it painful to do? Well, I think it was less painful that if I had tried it with oil, soap, etc and just pulled away. This way, I was able to get both rings off in no time, and not only the finger survived!

Now I have to decide whether or not to put them back on after the procedure!!! Should I?

Best Way to Unwind

31/05/2015

After being so used to a good and entirely-set-up-for-my-personal-convenience computer, it was a dreadful time to be without. I felt like a nomad at the best of times, a scavenger at my lowest, trying to get into a computer which would do what I wanted it to do, at the speed and functionality I was used to. That’s when I realised how much I took things for granted. So thankful for backups! I was able to access my files somehow.

So how did I de-stress? I ate, yes, but more important to me is music. Music soothes the wild beast, and indeed the wild beast in me is soothed! So my favourite way to unwind those coiled up muscles and tensed up ligaments is to stick on some beats headphones and lose myself in some good music. Uplifting lyrics and music will take me to another plane for a while. And as I work on second, and sometimes third, class computers, I am serene…. Hahaha!

Rich in Rice

03/01/2014

Where I live, there are many varieties of rice. And I mean many. Just this little shop alone sells almost 20 types.

IMG_3359Some would prefer one type to another. Others would extol their preferred type. Yet others would disdain the smooth polished white rice which most people have. It’s becoming quite a fad to have hill rice, unpolished rice, and even different coloured rice.

For me? I just cut down on rice. Period. Haha!

THERE IS SUCH A WORD!

31/12/2013

Goodness! I just found out that there IS such a word as yummilicious!

As much as fantabulous is a word too!

Haha! What fun!

Cabinet Capers

17/12/2013

Back to the topic of repairs. It does seem like our year coming to an end is going to be a repair-ful one!

This time it is kitchen cabinets – they are getting rather worn out. So worn out that many of the doors do not close properly. Some drawers squeak and protest each time they are opened. Perhaps the previous carpenter was not as up to scratch as we thought. We start getting other quotations.

Then Hubby comes home with a proposition. He thinks we should consider getting new cabinets at this website – wholesalers and distributers are usually cheaper. What’s more, the samples look like they would be great in organising our kitchen. Perhaps we will see an end to our search for new and decent cabinets soon…..!

Mystery Woman

16/12/2013

I came into office a little late the other day. On my table was this.IMG_7934There was no indication who left it.

When I asked my staff, no one acknowledged being the one who left it on my desk.

Stranger and stranger.

Then a volunteer came out from the back. She was passing through she said, and found a wall that needed some repair work (That word repair again!) She wanted to suggest some remedial work. Then she walked out the office door.

Problem was, I didn’t know her name. And she spoke so fast, was in such a hurry, that no one got her name…. It made me wonder if she had any business or calling card she could have used. Otherwise I could tell her where she could go for business card printing. Hmmm!
